Plague

Zagan stood over the putrid worm that had dared challenge his right to rule. The fetid minion looked up at his master, fear in his eyes, as it should be.
“Please forgive me,” he whimpered, his pathetic whine irritating Zagan. The faintest of an idea whispered in his head.
“What is it?” Chrone asked, his voice fearful of the zoic blob his master handed him.
“Her name is Zymosis, a gift from Pestilence.”
The creature shifted in Chrone’s hand, exploring his palm. The demon giggled. “It tickles…” he began, but then his laughter turned to screams as his hand dissolved.

It was Lady that sensed the changes first.  The mutt was Steven’s and she followed the boy everywhere. Then one day she growled at him, backing away from Steven when he stuck out his hand and called for her.
“Dumb dog, what’s your problem,” Steven growled, uncharacteristically angry.  I told him to go play without her. Later, when Steven didn’t come home, I went to look for him.  I found him bent over a deer, one of the ones we left feed for, so they’d come close. Steven had torn it open with his teeth and was eating the inside.

The Artist

The Artist
By Lisa McCourt Hollar

Simon stood before the glass enclosure, admiring his masterpiece. It looked just as he had envisioned. Bridgette’s feet were his favorite, posed in the beige shoes she’d paid a fortune for.  Ben’s were bent, as though wiggling in the water. It was beautiful. It was art. Something was missing though. Simon pulled out Tanya’s pineapple scented perfume. Pouring it into the tank, the colored cologne, tinged the water yellow.  Simon snapped a picture and then left the Aquarium.  He couldn’t wait for the headlines. He hoped this time they called him The Artist. Serial killer was such an ugly name.
